Focusing on the traditional “Japanese bar culture”, Blue Hour takes place primarily in a magnificent 1988 Japanese-styled pub in Taipei named “Light”, home to an assortment of mistresses and customers, who together weave an intricate story of desire and love. No less magnificent is the cast, which consists of award-winning actresses Ruby Lin, Cheryl Yang, Esther Liu, Nikki Hsieh, Puff Kuo, and Cammy Chiang.

The Fourth Floor Paradise (provisional English title) is a series to be released by Taiwan PTS. The show is to star Hong Kong acclaimed actor Anthony Wong and Golden Horse award winner Hsieh Ying-xuan; the plot follows a masseur who, apparently, has the ability to massage secrets out of people with his hands. The story seems to flow with the elements of mystery and suspense; although details are yet to be disclosed, fans have already been licking their lips over.

Written by Lu Shih-yuan who wrote The World Between Us and based on a comic, The Arc of Life features Ruby Lin, Ivy Chen, and Jian Man-shu, all of which are A-list actresses who have been away from the small screen for a while. The story focuses on the challenges and predicament three women face in the workforce, a subject matter many would find rather relatable.

Starring Vic Chou, Ruffian Hunter (provisional English title) is to be an action thriller ––– a rarity among Taiwanese shows. Chou who plays a criminal mind expert had brushed up his knowledge of law and psychology and trained in martial arts in order to deliver in portraying a character who sees through minds. This action-packed phycological thriller is all but sure to be another hit.

2021 also promises to deliver many sequels, including the series version of the blockbuster More Than Blue, featuring Gingle Wang, Ivy Shao, and Jacob Wang. The show is not only to focus more on the protagonists’ school lives but also develop a brand-new romantic side story. Fans who soaked their cinema seats with tears will be sure not to miss this one.
Aside from this, sequels to The World Between Us, The Making of an Ordinary Woman, Island Nation, and Best Interest are all possible for a return in the second half of 2021. It seems that the year is going to be a competitive one for Taiwanese drama.
